Teacher Comment:
Wow Madison, your finished product is fantastic! Your skill level in sewing is amazing, I imagine you will get heaps of use out of your hammock this summer. It was great to hear that Jordan has had a go and rates your product 10/10. Next time remember when doing a technology project it is important to do your needs assessment first, then the design process. You have clearly put in a huge effort, you should be really proud of yourself.

Student Comment:
I think that i did pretty well in the time frame and the finished product i thought was amazing. I had a great time making it. During the time making my hammock I had to learn things really fast like how to sew and how to wire things up without everything blowing up. As my topic revolved mostly around sewing I had to get my gran to teach me how to sew and we did a few practice ones together before I had to do my hammock.

Needs assessment

Needs Assessment:
 What do you already know?
 Why did you choose this topic/...be brief
I know that this would be a great idea because kids around the age of twelve like to listen to music and occasionally relax. In my Hammock design there is an i-pod and foam padded in the inside. So in this one idea there are many ways that you can have a great time. I also choose this topic because

 Identify the need and research this...is it really needed? What do the users expect?

Survey - Do you have a place for a hammock at your home? Would you use a hammock if you had a place? Would you prefer a plain hammock or one your i-pod could plug into?
In my class 22 out of 31 people have an i-pod.

 Investigate existing solutions...and identify their short comings in relation to the identified need.
Internet research - include pictures & explain that you couldn’t find your product
No, this hammock has not been invented yet, but there are similar types of hammocks that people have already invented and made. There are hammocks that have head rests, i-pods sitting on peoples laps and even a magazine holder. I have researched on the internet and found nothing on the hammock that I am making or any information about there being another hammock the same.

 Examine all information in relation to this need...survey results, graphs, tables and statistics would be useful.I chose this topic because I know that a lot of kids will enjoy the idea of having their own hammock. You would be able to listen to music and just chill out. There are also allot of features such as i-pod, i-pad, speakers and much more. I thought about how it could be more comfortable by adding foam in between the canvas and how you could put wiring in the inside without being seen so that you could have all of the electronic things that you would won’t in this hammock.

What the next paragraph needs.
Who has an i-pod/ how many people have i-pods
Who would use the hammock
Would you relax after work and lie in the hammock
Survey people in my class
How many people would buy the hammock

Great start Madison, Technology is always a little tricky with the needs assessment and figuring out a commercial cost. If you are unsure at all come & see me, I will point you in the right direction. Have you started making your prototype yet.
